Ariana Lacono, a 14 year-old that was suspended from her school, Clayton High School, for refusing to remove a nose piercing that violates the schools dress code. The nose piercing is some kind of religion that started around 2 years ago. The Church of Body Modification is a religion in which members express their faith by tattoos and body piercing. After she returned to school with her nose stud still attached, she received another suspension, but this time is was a 5 day suspension. She was told that if she returns to school with the nose stud on, she will receive a 10-day suspension. "I think it's kind of stupid for them to kick me out of school for a nose piercing," she said. "It's in the First Amendment for me to have freedom of religion."
"One of the remarkable things about religious freedom is that people have all kinds of beliefs that look to others as bizarre but make internal sense to them," Gordon said. "We really can only claim to be a country that respects religious liberty if we respect the variety of beliefs that exist in the country — both new and old."
Many times people get their rights violated and most don't do anything about it but Ariana is still fighting for the freedom and religion she believes in.
